What Is a Jumbotron and How Does It Work
A jumbotron is a modular screen made of LED panels (light-emitting diodes) that together create one large, high-brightness image. Unlike an LCD monitor or projector, a jumbotron LED has no size limitation — panels connect like building blocks, creating screens from 2×1.5 m to 20×5 m and larger. Each panel (cabinet) measures approximately 50×50 cm or 50×100 cm and weighs 7–12 kg. Panels connect mechanically (quick-locks) and electrically (signal and power cables). The whole system is controlled by a video processor that receives signal from a computer, cameras, or other source and distributes it across individual panels. Jumbotron setup takes 2–6 hours depending on size and requires a qualified crew of 2–4 technicians. Teardown is faster — typically 1–3 hours. A jumbotron LED offers brightness of 1,200–5,000+ nits, wide viewing angles (160°+), and a seamless bezel-free image — features unavailable from any other display technology.
Indoor vs Outdoor — Differences and Requirements
An indoor jumbotron is designed for use in enclosed spaces — conference halls, trade fair halls, banquet rooms. Brightness of 800–1,500 nits (sufficient under artificial lighting), pixel pitch P1.9–P2.6 (high resolution, sharp details up close), lighter panels, more delicate construction. An outdoor jumbotron must withstand weather conditions — rain, wind, direct sunlight. Brightness of 5,000–7,000 nits (readable in full sun), pixel pitch P3.9–P10 (lower resolution but visible from far away), IP65 protection rating (dust and waterproof), reinforced stainless steel construction. Outdoor pricing is higher than indoor — panels are more expensive (brighter diodes, seals) and require stronger supporting structures. Additional outdoor costs: reinforced rigging or ground support, wind protection (ballast, anchoring), power generator (if no fixed power supply), technical tent for control equipment.
Pixel Pitch — P1.9, P2.6, P3.9 — What to Choose
Pixel pitch is the distance between centers of adjacent LED diodes, measured in millimeters. The smaller the pitch, the higher the resolution (more pixels per square meter) and the higher the price. P1.9 (1.9 mm): highest resolution in event rental. Sharp image even from 2 meters. Ideal for conference rooms where viewers sit close to the screen. Highest panel price — rental 20–30% more expensive than P2.6. P2.6 (2.6 mm): the event industry gold standard. Excellent image from 3+ meters. The most commonly rented type for conferences, galas, and trade shows. Best quality-to-price ratio. P3.9 (3.9 mm): good image from 5+ meters. Popular for concerts, festivals, and large halls where viewers are far from the screen. Lowest cost per square meter. Rule of thumb: minimum viewing distance in meters ≈ pixel pitch in millimeters. If the nearest viewer sits 3 m from the screen — P2.6 is sufficient. If 2 m — choose P1.9. If 5+ m (concert, stadium) — P3.9 is the best value.
Jumbotron Rental Pricing in 2026
Small indoor jumbotron (2×1.5 m, P2.6): from 800 PLN/day. Ideal for conference rooms up to 150 people, presentations, and panel discussions. Medium indoor jumbotron (3×2 m, P2.6): from 2,500 PLN/day. Standard for conferences of 200–400 people, corporate galas. Large indoor jumbotron (4×2.5 m, P2.6): from 4,500 PLN/day. Congresses, large conferences, stage backdrops. Very large jumbotron (6×3 m+, P2.6): from 8,000 PLN/day. Major events, trade fair halls, PKiN Congress Hall. Outdoor jumbotron (4×3 m, P3.9, IP65): from 5,000 PLN/day. Festivals, outdoor events, fan zones. Large outdoor jumbotron (6×4 m, P3.9): from 10,000 PLN/day. Large outdoor events, concerts. Prices include LED panels, structure, video processor, cabling, transport (up to 100 km), setup, and teardown by a qualified crew. Additional costs: screen operator (from 800 PLN/day), extended setup (beyond standard 4 hours), outdoor power generator (from 1,200 PLN/day).
Jumbotron vs Projector — When to Choose Which
Projector wins when: budget is limited (projector is 600–2,000 PLN/day vs 2,500+ PLN jumbotron), the room is dark (theater, cinema, darkened hall), you need a very large image at low cost (6 m image from a projector costs a fraction of an equivalent LED wall). Jumbotron wins when: the room is bright (hotels with chandeliers, halls with windows, outdoors), quality and 'wow effect' matter (contrast, brightness, color saturation of a jumbotron are incomparable with a projector), the audience is large (300+ people) and needs a screen visible from every seat, the event is outdoors (projector is useless in daylight), you need a non-standard screen shape (L-shape, curved, corner). Compromise: at a medium conference (150–300 people) in a bright hotel room, a P2.6 3×2 m jumbotron at 2,500 PLN/day delivers dramatically better quality than a projector at 1,500 PLN/day — a 1,000 PLN difference, but attendee experience on a completely different level.
Delivery Process — From Inquiry to Teardown
Inquiry (6–8 weeks before): describe your event — audience size, room type, content to display (presentations, video, live camera). Quote (5–7 weeks before): provider prepares a proposal with size, pixel pitch, and configuration recommendations, optionally after a site visit. Confirmation (4–6 weeks before): quote acceptance, deposit payment (30–50%), schedule agreement. Content preparation (2–4 weeks before): deliver presentations, video, and graphics in the correct resolution — the provider will help with formatting. Setup (day before or morning of event): technical crew delivers panels, builds structure, connects panels, hooks up video processor, configures and tests. Time: 2–6 hours. Event: screen operator handles source switching (speaker laptop, camera, video), monitors image quality. Teardown: after event conclusion, crew dismantles the jumbotron (1–3 hours) and removes equipment.

Common Mistakes When Renting a Jumbotron
Screen too small: a 2×1.5 m jumbotron in a room for 500 people — the back rows can't see anything. Rule: 1 m of screen width for every 5–6 m of room depth. Too fine pixel pitch: P1.9 for a concert where the nearest viewer stands 10 m from the screen — you overpay 30% with no visible difference. Not enough setup time: planning setup 1 hour before the event risks delaying the start. Minimum 3–4 hours. Poor content formatting: a 4:3 presentation on a 16:9 screen — black bars on the sides look unprofessional. No operator: having 'someone from the office' run the jumbotron instead of a professional operator — risk of black screen, wrong signal source, and speaker stress. Ignoring outdoor conditions: an indoor jumbotron at an outdoor event without rain protection — equipment damage worth tens of thousands of zlotys. No Plan B: what if it rains? What if wind exceeds safety limits? A professional provider has emergency procedures.
Renting a jumbotron is an investment that transforms any event — from an intimate conference to a multi-thousand festival. Prices in 2026 start from 800 PLN/day for a small indoor screen and reach 10,000+ PLN for large outdoor installations. The key is matching the right pixel pitch to viewing distance, screen size to room dimensions, and panel type (indoor/outdoor) to usage conditions. Plan 6–8 weeks ahead and always use a professional provider with an operator — a jumbotron is not DIY equipment. Contact AVE Events — we'll help you choose the perfect jumbotron for your event in any city in Poland.
